The Acting Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Mr. James Kobina Dadson has blamed Ghana’s outdated map for its numerous land issues.

According to him, Ghana's 1974 map does not have every record sitting on it thus translating into incurrent land records.

He, therefore, called for a critical look at having an up-to-date map that will have records commensurating with what is on the ground.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a 5-day retreat for management of the Lands Commission on March 18, 2022, Mr. Dadson further hinted at a total transformation of land service delivery in the country upon reforms at the Lands Commission.

Additionally, he rubbished views and allegations that the Lands Commission is the cause of the many land disputes.

Chiefs as Managers of Lands

Mr. Dadson admitted that chiefs are managers of over 80 percent of lands in the country so what the commission is doing is just doing the registration of lands on their behalf.

He also mentioned the Commission’s activity of educating the chiefs, especially on the new Lands Act.
