The funeral of the late Ga Manye, Naa Omaedru seems to have halted due to an injunction secured at the High Court against the Ga Traditional Council from going ahead with the funeral.

Several plans and preparations by the Traditional Council are, however, far advanced, even per a direction for business to close on October 28.

The injunction notice dated October 25 noted, among others, that:

“It is hereby ordered defendants/respondents or the funeral committee chaired by Nii Otintor II, all members of the committee, their privies, workmen, assigns, and all persons working through them are restrained from handling, organizing, touching, performing, or dealing with the remains of the Late Queen Mother, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, in any manner for a period of ten (10) days,” the court said.

However, in an interview on Asaase FM in Accra, a member of the funeral planning committee, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, noted that the funeral rite would proceed irrespective of the injunction.

He noted that his outfit has only heard of the purported injunction on social media but has not been served yet.

In her lifetime, the late Ga Manye, who died in December 2022 at age 88, was noted greatly for her numerous charity works.
