Francis Sosu still out of the country-Speaker indicates to court

The Police Service has charged the Madina MP over “unlawful road blockade and destruction of public property” during a demonstration he led in his constituency.

The Speaker of Parliament has indicated to the Kaneshie District Court that the MP for Madina, Francis Sosu is still out of the country.

According to the Speaker, the MP is on Parliamentary duty in the United States of America.

In court today, the Magistrate acknowledged having a letter on his file, signed by the Deputy Clerk to Parliament but indicated confusion relative to the content of the letter.

The letter reads in part that; “I have been directed by the Rt. Hon. Speaker to bring to the attention of the Hon. Court that the Hon. Member is attending at the proceedings of the 3rd Meeting of the first Session of the 8th Parliament, which commenced on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, and is also currently representing Parliament and the Country in a conference in the United States of America.”

Lawyer for the Member of Parliament for Madina on his part assured the court that his client will be present in the next sitting.

On his part, ASP Sylvester Asare the Police prosecutor indicated to the court that its outfit had not received any communication relative to the MP’s inability to make it to court thus the Magistrate requested a certified true copy to be given for the Police records.

At the last sitting of the court, the Speaker of Parliament by a letter indicated the MP’s absence from the jurisdiction.
