A former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ivan Addae-Mensah, is expected to delete offending comments made about a private legal practitioner, William Edem Fugar, from the next edition of his book titled, “My Life.”

In addition to this, he is supposed to publish a quarter-page advertisement in the Daily Graphic, offering a retraction and apology to the founder of Fugar& Company Law Firm.

In January this year, the private legal practitioner with several years of practice, sued the former Vice Chancellor for defamation owing to the content of his newly published book titled “My Life.”

According to the plaintiff, some words published by the defendant in certain portions of the book are defamatory of him, and he thus sought an order from the court for the copies of the book in circulation to be withdrawn.

In his Statement of Claim signed by Marietta Brew of Lithur Brew and Co., he noted that in the book, which was launched in December 2023, the former VC, who was once the General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), sought to provide a recount of events that led to the choice of Limann as Presidential Candidate of the party in the 1979 elections.

However, before the trial could fully commence, the parties arrived at a settlement, which has been duly adopted as consent judgment by the court presided over by His Lordship Justice John Bosco Nabarase.

The plaintiff, who per the suit was also seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining Professor Addae Mensah from further publicizing the offending passages, as well as damages for libel and aggravated damages, has thus released the defendant from the claims in his suit and waived any cause of action from the statements published in the book.
