Marc Short, who was the chief of staff to former Vice President Mike Pence has testified before a federal grand jury that is looking into the January 6, 2021 assault on the U.S. Capitol.

“I can confirm that I did receive a subpoena for the federal grand jury and I complied with that subpoena,” Short said. “Under the advice of counsel, I can’t say much more than that.”

ABC News first reported his grand jury appearance on Friday in Washington, D.C.

In January of this year, Short made an appearance before the House select committee investigating the January 6 incident in response to a subpoena. In the June 16 public hearings, clips from that earlier interview were played, which included one where Short said he believed that Mark Meadows, who was the then white House chief of staff, agreed with him that Pence lacked the authority to overturn the results of the election by not certifying the Electoral College votes.

In the video testimony, Short said he thought Meadows understood that to be the case but according to Short, Meadows had told “so many people so many different things,” making this not clear.

In an interview with CBS News reporter, Catherine Herridge, Short said that during the 187 minutes of rioting in the Capitol, he only spoke to one person in the White House and that was Meadows. Herridge asked him whether Meadows gave any assurance to Pence that Trump had tried to mobilise help to which Short replied that it was “not part of our conversation.”
