The High Court has dismissed an injunction application against the approval of 14 GMO products for food, feed, and processing in Ghana.

The application, filed by Food Sovereignty Ghana and others against the National Biosafety Authority (NBA), aimed to halt the registration of these GMO crops.

The presiding judge, Her Ladyship, Justice Barbara Tetteh-Charway, acknowledged the NBA's diligent execution of its statutory duties in ensuring the safety and regulatory compliance of GMO crops within Ghana's agricultural sector.

The court also noted that seeking information from the NBA prior to filing the application could have prevented the need for legal action.

This ruling is significant for stakeholders in biotechnology and agricultural innovation because it underscores the importance of science-based biosafety systems in expanding producer choice, building consumer confidence, facilitating trade, and promoting agricultural research and development.

The judgment on the substantive matter is scheduled for Friday, May 24, 2024.

The NBA has subsequently released a statement reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the safety of modern biotechnology in Ghana.
