On 14th June, 2017, the Accra High Court presided over by Her Ladyship Mrs.Cecilia Don-Chebe Agbevey J ruled on a divorce settlement case involving seasoned Ghanaian footballer, Nii Odartey Lamptey and his ex-wife, Gloria Odartey Lamptey (as she then was).
The Court determined that Gloria had performed wifely duties during the period the pair were married and deserved to be granted some compensation, even though this was within the period that she was guilty of adultery, an event the Honorable Judge described as “an unfortunate event.”
On the matter of the Dome house, Nii Odartey Lamptey argued that he bought the house before marrying Gloria. However, the Honorable Judge observed that although the date on the receipt was defaced, it appeared to be 1999, which would be some five years after their marriage was converted to ordinance on 28th May, 1994. By this discretionary determination, the court ruled that Gloria deserved the house.

Recall that in 2009, Nii Odartey Lamptey was dragged to court by his own brother, Nii Odartei Lamptey who prayed the Accra High Court to issue an order of perpetual injunction against the former footballer, restraining him from selling or ejecting him (Nii Odartei Lamptey) from a house that he had gifted to his mother who was now deceased. His brother also sought an amount of GHS10,000 as refund for certain renovations that were said to have been done on the house.
However, the court presided over by His Lordship P. Bright Mensah dismissed both applications.
In the current matter, however, Her Ladyship Mrs.Cecilia Don-Chebe Agbevey J settled the Dome house in favor of Gloria Odartey Lamptey. Additionally, the court awarded her GHS200,000 as financial settlement, and a Toyota Venza with registration number GE 6455-12 which was in her custody, for personal use. The court also granted an order that the Toyota Yaris with registration number GT 2013-11 be awarded to the plaintiff.
