Five students of the Konongo Odumase Senior High School (SHS) will appear before the Konongo District Court today, for their involvement in the death of a first-year student at the school.

They were arrested over the stabbing of Larhan Samu’un, a first year male student of the same school, on Friday 5 November 2021.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had led other senior colleagues to bully first years on campus on the night of Friday, November 5, 2021, after prep hours.

“These five suspects who are all in Form 2, ganged up and decided to go to House Three and then bully the first years. They first attacked and assaulted some of them. They further moved to the mini market on campus and grabbed another first year student and attempted to drag him away to molest him but he was rescued,” DSP Osei Adu Agyemang of the Konongo District Police said.

“This action infuriated Emmanuel Osei Frimpong [the key suspect] who went and attacked a first year student but was stopped by the deceased. Feeling angry, the suspect pulled out a small kitchen knife and stabbed the deceased without any provocation,” DSP Agyemang added.

The first year student that was stabbed is said to have sustained knife wounds at the lower left ribs and died at the Konongo Government Hospital.

The students will be expected to face murder related charges.

The family of the victim are also calling for justice to be served.

“There are laws in Ghana that deal with people who have committed a crime like this. So all the family is seeking is for justice to be served. What needs to be done for the suspect to realize that he has committed a crime must be done. Our deceased relative is calm, so we are really saddened by his passing,” Alhaji Abubakar Siddick, an uncle of the deceased and the spokesperson for the family said.
