Five Konongo Odumase SHS students remanded over the stabbing of first-year colleague
They have been remanded for seven days and will be kept at the Juaso Juvenile Detention Center.
The Konongo District Court has remanded five students of the Konongo Odumase Senior High School (SHS) for their involvement in the death of a first-year student at the school.
They have been remanded for seven days and will be kept at the Juaso Juvenile Detention Center.
Two of the accused persons are 16 years, while the others are 17 years.
The first accused person has been charged provisionally with murder, where as the four others were charged with abetment to commit a crime.
They were arrested over the stabbing of Larhan Samu’un, a first-year male student of the same school, on Friday November 5, 2021.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the juveniles had led other senior colleagues to bully first years on campus on the night of Friday, November 5, 2021, after prep hours.
The first-year student that was stabbed is said to have sustained knife wounds at the lower left ribs and died at the Konongo Government Hospital.
“We brought the juveniles to court. As investigations is not completed, we came to seek them remanded, so that we can continue with investigations. Since we cannot keep them over and above the 48 hours, per the constitutional mandate. So we brought them to the Juvenile Court today, to get them remanded. So God being so good, the court granted our request,” Konongo Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Shaibu Osei, said to journalists.
They are expected to re-appear before the court on November 15, 2021.
