A 45-year-old farmer, Nenevi Freeman, who had repeatedly defiled two siblings at Akyem Abordom near Kade in the Eastern Region has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labor.

He pleaded guilty when charged for defilement contrary to section 101(2) of the criminal offences Act 1960 (Act 29).

The court presided over by His Honor Abubakari Abass Adams was told that the two victims, aged 12 and 13 years live in Abodom with their mother and grandfather, Harry Adzeglo.

The prosecution led by Detective Inspector Isaac Owusu Achiaw noted that Mr Freeman lived in the same house with the victims until he later relocated to another house, albeit in the same town.

On February 9 this year, the victims’ grandfather, Harry Adzeglo received information that Mr Freeman had been sleeping with them. He subsequently invited his grandchildren for questioning and they confirmed it.

It turned out that the convict had been defiling the two minors since 2020 by inviting them to his room for money when he bought some of the pastries they were selling.

Harry led the two children to the police station to make an official report where they revealed that the convict had forcibly had sex with them on separate occasions when they were selling pastries.

It is believed that the minors had been defiled at least some five to ten times by the convict. A report from the Kade Government Hospital confirmed that the victims had been defiled, after which Mr Freeman was arrested and arraigned before court.
