The Suhum Police has arrested a 32-year-old suspect, Tanko Sani, who claimed he was an army officer and defrauded a young man of GHC 2,800 under the pretext of getting him enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces.

The victim, Richmond Ohene Addo is said to have been assisted by a fire officer with the Suhum Fire Service in capturing the suspect, after which he was handed over to the Suhum Police.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, said once the police concludes its investigations, the suspect will be put before the court.

“The police would want to advice all persons who have interest in joining any of the security services that they shouldn’t fall prey to such criminals who go around and parade themselves as persons who can assist in whatever way to help them join the security service,” he added.

He also asked the public to refrain from paying bribes as a means to be recruited into any security service since criminals are looking to take advantage of persons desperate to be enlisted into any of the security services.
