Ex-IGP secures order for substituted service of Net-2 TV Presenter

A former Inspector General of Police of the Republic of Ghana, David Asante-Appeatu has secured an ex-parte order from the High Court to serve a Net 2 television presenter, Justice Kweku Annan by substituted service.

Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, in July this year, sued Net-2 TV presenter, Justice Kweku Annan for defamation.

The defendant is the host of the TV station’s popular talk show known as ‘The Seat’.

Mr. Kweku Annan is alleged to have stated on the June 16, 2021, edition of his show that, the former IGP is a defense for legendary Ghanaian and Nigerian criminals and shelters them.

Additionally, the presenter alleged that Mr. Asante-Apeatu is on the payroll of top criminals in Ghana, and had refused to cause the arrest and prosecution of same.

He further accused the former IGP of working in collusion with hardened foreign criminals to terrorize Ghanaians.

But Mr.Asante-Appeatu in his writ avers that the accusations are figments of the defendant’s imagination and completely false.

According to the former IGP, the allegations by the presenter were maliciously calculated to damage his reputation and cause him public disaffection.

However, the court on July 29, 2021, ordered for the writ of summons and statement of claim with this order to be served on the defendant, Justice Kweku Annan by substituted service by posting copies of the processes in the following manner;

1. On the Notice Board of the High Court, General Jurisdiction, Accra.
2. By posting copies on the Defendant’s place of work-NET 2 TV, Hollywood building, Madina.
3. By a publication in the “New Crusading Guide” Newspaper.

All the above processes, according to the court, shall remain posted for 10 days.

Further to the above, it is ordered that photos of the Bailiff posting copies on the premises of Defendant’s place of work shall be taken and included as part of the proof of service of the processes.
