The Founder and Head of the Perez Chapel, Bishop Charles Agyin Asare has cautioned the Ghana Police Service against what he believes to be an attempt by the latter to legislate prophecies in Ghana.

Speaking to his congregation on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at the Perez Dome in Accra, Bishop Agyin Asare referred to the Police Directive on January 6, 2022, which noted in part that the Ghana Police Service is analyzing prophecies of various Churches despite its earlier directive.

However, he believes that such a move by the Police is an attempt to legislate prophecy even though it is ok for the Police to caution churches about prophecy.

“It’s okay for the Police to caution us about the prophecy that causes fear and panic, especially that have to do with notable personalities. However for the Police to issue a statement on the 6th of January that they are analyzing prophecies in the various churches is trying to legislate prophecy

“So I want to admonish the Police administration that they’ve done their best. They told us to be careful about prophecies that will cause danger and panic. By and large, the church complied. They should please not get into wanting to legislate prophecy because they do not have what it take to legislate prophecy,”

Prior to 31st December, watch night services, the Ghana Police Service cautioned all Ghanaians, Religious leaders, and groups to be measured in their utterances especially in the communication of prophecies as the year 2021 drew to an end.

According to the Ghana Police Service, such acts would injure the right of others and the public interest.

It, therefore, drew the attention of Ghanaians especially Religious groups to the fact that the freedom of worship, religion, and free speech is subject to respect for the rights and freedoms of others per the laws of Ghana.

Also, in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, SUPT. Alexander Kwaku Obeng, the Police Service noted that it has begun analyzing such videos to ascertain whether any of them are in breach of the laws of the country and anybody found culpable will be put before the court.

The Ghana Police service further cautioned the public that the law on the publication of information including prophecies that tend to cause fear and panic or put people’s lives in danger is not limited to 31st December only, but should be adhered to on daily basis.
