A Deputy Attorney General, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah has described as baseless a claim by the Convener for #Fix The Country Movement, Oliver Barker Vormawor that he was tortured while on remand in police custody recently after his alleged coup threat.

The Deputy AG indicates that Oliver Barker made a mere allegation without evidence to back the same.

Speaking on Top Story on Joy FM on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, he added that Oliver Barker had failed per his viral video to prove any intentional conduct on the part of the Police officers to inflict severe pain on him while in custody as required by the Convention against Torture.

In a live Facebook video on April 11, 2022, convener of #Fix The Country Movement, Oliver Barker Vormawor made an allegation of being manhandled by Police officials while under their custody.

He also stated that he was put in a cell that was originally designed for four people but housed 30 detainees throughout his 35 days in the cell.

Moreover, Oliver mentioned that aside from the cells being full beyond their capacity, they had no ventilation and were filled with bedbugs and rats.

Even though the Deputy Attorney General admitted that Ghana’s prisons and cells are not in excellent condition, what the convener said does not amount to torture.

Further to the above, Mr. Tuah-Yeboah noted that his outfit will be ready to look if the convener provides evidence and better particulars on how he was tortured because the state believes in and upholds the fundamental rights of its citizens.
