The Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Gertrude Torkornoo has commended Ghana’s Judiciary for the role played in dealing with cybercrime cases despite the challenges faced in the area.

According to her, however, there is a need for urgent training to equip them with the needed know-how and skills in this ever-changing world.

Her Ladyship made the remarks when she received a delegation from the Joint Cyber Security Committee (JCC) and the Cyber Security Agency.

Led by the Director General of the CSA, Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, the Committee discussed pertinent issues affecting Ghana’s Judicial Service, which is a member of the Joint Committee.

Addressing the delegation, the Chief Justice bemoaned the fact that the lack of standardization and interoperability of IT systems and its potential cyber-attacks have the potential to undermine Ghana’s Judicial Service infrastructure.

On his part, the Chairperson of the JCC, Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako called for the institutionalization of cybercrime and cybersecurity in the legal education curriculum and also lauded the Chief Justice for her resolve to see to the same.

Established pursuant to section 13 of the Cyber Security Act, 2020 (Act 1038), the Joint Cyber Security committee members were appointed by the president in consultation with the CSA as provided in Section 13(4) of Act 1038 to collaborate with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and other stakeholders for the implementation of relevant cybersecurity measures.

The representative of the Judiciary on the Committee, Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe JA was also present at the meeting.
