Court opposes bail again for KNUST lecturer remanded over wife’s disappearance
The judge denied the bail application on grounds that all witness statements haven’t been filed.
The Kumasi High Court has refused a bail application by lawyers of Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey, the KNUST lecturer who has been remanded for his alleged involvement in the disappearance of his wife, Rhodaline Amoah-Darko.
The judge denied the bail application on grounds that all witness statements haven’t been filed.
Two other persons whom the court issued bench warrants for their arrests are also expected in court when the court resumes its sittings.
The case has therefore been adjourned to March 22, 2022 to begin case management.
On February 22, 2022 the court remanded the accused into prison custody, after fresh charges of kidnapping and deception of a public officer were filed against him by Prosecutors from the Attorney-General’s office.
According to the police, Dr. Aggrey sent messages from his wife’s phone on the day he claimed she had been kidnapped. The police say communication from her mobile phone, alleged to have been from kidnappers demanding a ransom, came from a cell tower close to the KNUST campus home of the accused.
The police said in his caution statement, Dr. Aggrey admitted that he sent those messages through his wife’s phone.
He however failed to provide information regarding the whereabouts of his wife.
