The High Court in Accra has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police and the Director General of the Legal and Prosecution Unit for failing to appear in court regarding a contempt case.

The court found that they had "blatantly refused" to comply with orders to appear before the court.

The decision came after Sureword Global Outreach filed an application for the release of a vehicle, GN2925-20, which the respondents failed to honor despite court orders.

Counsel for the applicants Abraham Arthur, argued for their committal for contempt, stating that the court's orders had been disregarded.

Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, the presiding judge after hearing the submission of Counsel said, the Court has extended enough courtesy to them.

“This court has extended enough courtesy to these public officers and due to the fact that there is no body above the law. I hereby issue a bench warrant for the arrest of the respondents – Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department and Director General Legal and Prosecution unit of CID of the Ghana Police Service,” Justice Lydia Osei Marfo said.
