The High Court has acquitted ACP Benjamin Agordzo,  Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli, and Corporal Seidu Abubakar, who were accused of abetting to plot a coup together with seven others.

The court, however, found the other six guilty on the counts of conspiracy to commit high treason and high treason and thus sentenced them to death accordingly.

They are Donya Kafui, aka Ezor, Bright Alan Debrah Ofosu, Johannes Zikpi,  Warrant Officer II Esther Saan Dekuwine, Lance Corporal Ali Solomon, and Corporal Sylvester Akanpewon.

The case was presided over by a three-member panel of Court of Appeal Justices sitting as additional High Court Justices. They are Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, Justice Hafisata Amaleboba, and Justice Stephen Oppong.

The case began as far back as April 2021, when Dr. Frederick Yao Mac-Palm the deceased Chief Executive Officer of the Citadel Hospital, was arrested and charged.

According to the facts of the case, Dr Mac-Paim and his colleagues were members of Take Action Ghana (TAG), through which a demonstration was planned so as to overthrow the government.

The AG added that they contacted a blacksmith in Alavanyo to manufacture some explosives and ammunition after which they were test-fired by Mac Palm and others at Teshie and thus subsequently arrested.
