Controller and Accountant General asks workers to get Ghana card or face no pay
The National Identity Card ( Ghana Card) is gradually being synchronised across service sectors.
The Controller and Accountant’s General Department (CAGD) has served a notice to public workers, to register for the Ghana Card or risk not being paid their salaries.
“Please note that effective December 1, 2021, workers on the Government of Ghana payroll who have not registered with the NIA will not be paid,” the statement read.
It indicated that CAGD is collaborating with the National Identification Authority (NIA) for a harmonised database that will facilitate biometric identification of workers on government payroll.
This also follows earlier indications by the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia on linking the Ghana Card to government payroll, to deal with issues of ghost workers.
The National Identity Card ( Ghana Card) is gradually being synchronised across service sectors.
Currently it is required for the on-going registration of sim cards.
It has also been merged with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the Tax Identification Number (TIN) of the Ghana Revenue Authority; a move to increase the database of these institutions.
