A retired Supreme Court Justice who is the Board Chair of the Africa Digital Rights Hub(ADRH), Prof Justice Date-Bah has called for a collaborative approach involving all the relevant stakeholders to ensure the digital privacy of children.

According to him, assurance of privacy in the use of digital products will lead to greater use of such technology tools and generate more trust among young ones.

Speaking at the launch of a report on data privacy rights titled; “Young People, Privacy and Trust in Ghana”, the retired Jurist thus called on the Ministry in charge of Education to explore better ways to secure the privacy of children even in the classrooms.

THE REPORT

The report contains findings of a survey by the ADRH in collaboration with two NGOs on young people between the ages of 13 to 17 which explored their perspectives on their privacy rights.

In her submission, the Executive Director of ADRH, Ms Teki Akwetteh said that her outfit undertook a series of workshops where children from diverse backgrounds undertook an online survey.

She thus established that the report covers what the young participants said on the topic and their various recommendations.

Additionally, she bemoaned the fact that the data of child online users were not being given the needed protection.
