CJ affirms commitment of Judiciary to end illegal mining
“We are a nation of laws" - Chief Justice Kwesi Anin
Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah has affirmed the commitment of the Judiciary to support the government in the campaign against illegal mining.
In his address at the special training workshop held under the joint auspices of the Minerals Commission and the Judicial Service of Ghana, the Chief Justice noted that “the Ghanaian Judiciary will do its best to discharge the responsibilities in this existential battle.”
The training session would offer participating judges insights into the offenses and penalties applicable under the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703) and Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act, 2019 (Act 995).
The Chief Justice highlighted the need to collaborate with other agencies of the state to realize the intended objective of ending illegal mining activities in the country.
“We are a nation of laws. That is something that I believe we are all proud of, which means that when aberrant conduct such as this arises, it is the law that we must turn to not self-help,” The Chief Justice added.
A total of 32 judges and magistrates are participating in the workshop, held in Kumasi.
