CID still investigating 2017 Kumasi Court raid by Delta Forces-AG

“There was an account of the absence of evidence in the view of the Attorney General at the time. I was also aware that the CID was supposed to speed up investigations, and they are continuing with investigations. I will probably have to urge them to speed up investigations.”

These statements were made by the Attorney General, Godfred Dame when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, July 6, 2021.

Mr.Dame indicated that the Police are still probing the conduct of the 2017 Kumasi court raiders and the suspects will be duly prosecuted when they are able to gather the required evidence.

The Attorney General filed a nolle prosequi due to the lack of evidence in prosecuting the case.

In April 2017, suspected members of the Delta Force, a group aligned to the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) stormed a Circuit court in Kumasi and freed members of their group who had earlier been arrested and were facing charges in the court.

The members of the group were arrested after causing a disturbance at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.

However, the Delta force group stormed the court, freed them and vandalized court properties, and nearly assaulted the sitting judge.

The Delta Force members afterwards turned themselves voluntarily for arrest after escaping court custody.

Miss Gloria Akuffo, former Attorney General however dropped the charges against the eight members of the group due to lack of evidence.

The presiding judge, Her Honour Patricia Amponsah subsequently discharged the accused persons and duly dismissed the case.
