An Accra Circuit Court has refused the bail application of Patience Botwe, the househelp at the center of the theft case at the home of the former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah.

In court on Tuesday, it emerged that the accused person flouted bail conditions at the Juvenile court, where she was previously arraigned and was not attending court, which subsequently led to a bench warrant for her arrest.

“This court is not inclined to grant bail to first accused person (Patience Botwe) because proceedings of the Juvenile Court C showed that she flouted the court bail and a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.

Even when the case was struck out in March this year, the accused person was not arrested despite the bench warrant. Bail application for first accused person is refused,” said Her Her Honour Afia Owusuaa Appiah, presiding judge at the Circuit court.

The court further ordered the prosecution to conclude their investigations, so the plea of the accused person can be taken at the next hearing on October 17, 2023.

Patience Botwe, 18, and and six others have been slapped with various counts of stealing and dishonestly receiving, over the theft of money and valuable items from the residence of the former minister - the items in question are now the subject of an investigation by the Special Prosecutor
