Two nationals of Cameroon who were arrested for trading in counterfeit Ghana cedis have been remanded by the Akwele Magistrate Court, police have confirmed.

The two, William Mbenso, 37, and Mbah Caleb also 37, were arrested by Police at Kasoa on February 9, 2022.

Police say the two promised to double an amount of GHC 50,000 for one Benjamin Agyemang, who contacted the accused persons on social media.

Benjamin is said to have reported the matter to the police after suspecting the accused persons could be fraudsters.

“The police were able to trace them and arrest them. The police retrieved a bigger amount of money from the two, cut to the sizes of 200 denominations to the tune of GHC 64,000 and a printing machine,” Central East Police Commander, DCOP Okyere Boapeah, is quoted to have said in a Citi News interview.

The accused persons are to reappear in court on February 16, 2022.
