The police in Sunyani­have arrested 26-year-old taxi driver for allegedly knocking down two pedestrians on the Sunyani-Abesim road, killing one of the victims.

According to a police situational report, the crash occurred when the suspect, Gilbert Adika, was driving a Toyota Vitz taxi cab with registration number GR7260-23, from Abesim to Sunyani.

A report made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Sunyani, indicated that the taxi cab on reaching a section of the road near the Police Experi­mental School, veered off to the opposite lane and knocked down the two pedestrians against a tree.

Adika and the victims, who suffered injuries were rushed to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital for treatment.

But, one of the victims, Hak­ino Shaibu, 24, was confirmed dead by medical doctors on duty at the emergency unit of the hos­pital, according to the report.

The report indicated that the police have deposited the body of Shaibuat the Sunyani Teaching Hospital mortuary for preserva­tion.
