Bono Region: 14 illegal miners arrested in joint security operation

At the time of their arrest, some of the suspects were actively engaged in illegal mining along the Supre and Apampramu river of the district.

14 illegal miners have been arrested in three communities of the Bono Region by a joint security operation involving the Dormaa East District Police Command, assembly members, and National Investigation Bureau (NIB).

“We have launched an ‘operation end galamsey now’ to deal with illegal mining in the district. By the end of November, we will ensure that all illegal mining is being flushed out from the district. All those involved in the act in the district will be dealt with,” Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang, the District Chief Executive for Dormaa East said. 

Items retrieved at the site include; a water pumping machine, shovels, pick-axes, six washing carpets, Wellington boots among others. 

The police added that, at the time of their arrest, some of the suspects were actively engaged in illegal mining along the Supre and Apampramu river of the district.
