The Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Gertrude Torkornoo, has cautioned Members of Parliament about their nonchalant attitudes in cases they present before the apex court.

She noted that when this is not stopped, the court would be forced to impose costs against such parties when those constitutional cases do not go in their favor.

Addressing counsel in court on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, the Chief Justice, presiding over the seven-member panel, however, affirmed that his outfit does not in any way seek to discourage parties, especially MPs, from bringing cases before them, per the move.

These words of caution were expressed by the Chief Justice, when the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, once again failed to show up in court in a case he’s filed against the Attorney General and two others.

His counsel, Thaddeus Sory, on his part, pleaded with the bench for his client’s absence and assured them of his presence on the next adjourned date.

The panel, which was billed to deliver its judgment on the same day, had to defer the same since the full decision was not ready.

The case has meanwhile been adjourned to May 15, 2024.
