Association of Judges, Magistrates to drag Sosu to GLC
The Association has described the MP’s comment as serious and with the potential to do undue damage to the image of the Judiciary.
The Association of Judges and Magistrates has indicated that it is lodging a formal complaint against the Member of Parliament for the Madina Constituency, Francis Xavier Sosu for his “Political judges” comment.
The Association has described the MP’s comment as serious and with the potential to do undue damage to the image of the Judiciary.
“Having regard to the seriousness which the AMJG takes this statement and its potential to do undue damage to the image of the Judiciary, the Association is lodging a formal complaint against Honourable Sosu to the General Legal Council immediately for his unprofessional statement and utterances which have the potential to tarnish the image of the Judiciary as a whole.”
In a statement dated February 16, 2022, the Association further describes the Madina MP’s statement as unfortunate, reckless, and misguided especially from an MP and a lawyer.
Mr. Sosu during the Yentua demonstration last Thursday, February 10, asserted that some judges have become political in the line of work and that such judges would be treated as such.
“What it means is that when you become partisan as a judge remember that your tenure of office as a judge will run with the political party that you favor. Let that be clear because political power is very transient, positions are not possessions, so people will come, people will go,” he said.
However, the AMJG per its statement has asked the Honourable Member the following questions;
a.Who is a political Judge?
b.Who determines who is a political Judge and by what criteria is the determination made?
c.Who are the so-called political Judges?
Additionally, the statement reiterates that Judges do not determine which cases are filed or put before them for hearing thus describing Hon. Sosu’s statement as an attempt to intimidate Judges who are doing nothing other than their normal work.
