Assemblyman jailed 14 months for attempted rape, unlawful entry

The Wa District Court, presided over by Mr Maxwell Maxibrain Titriku, has sentenced an Assemblyman, Seidu Peter Kaadaare to 14 months in prison. 

Mr. Kaadaare was sentenced on both counts, of attempted rape and unlawful entry, contrary to section 152 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29) and section 18 and 97 of the same Act respectively. 

Chief Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, the Upper West Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service said DOVVSU received a report from the complainant, who happens to be the victim, a female basic school teacher, that the accused had indecently assaulted her in March, this year.

According to the statement of offence, on the first count, Mr. Kaadaare on May 14, 2022, at the Kambali section of Wa in the Upper West Region, did unlawfully enter the room of a co-tenant, without her consent, with the intention to have sexual intercourse with her. 

On count two, Mr. Kaadaare on the May 14, 2022, at the same location of the Region, did unlawfully enter the room of the victim without her consent with the intention to have sexual intercourse with her. 

“The accused person, in his caution statement to the police, admitted the offence in the presence of an independent witness and further stated that he did that under the influence of an evil spirit.

He was charged with the offences of attempt to commit crime, to wit rape, and unlawful entry after further investigations," Chief Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, the Upper West Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service said.
