Asamankese court jails 38 year-old farmer 15 years for incest

The Asamankese circuit court, presided over by His Honor Abubakari Abass Adams convicted the man, Kofi Oppong on his guilty plea to the charge of incest, contrary to section 105(1) of the criminal code 1960 (Act 29).
The prosecutor, Inspector Susan Ayaric told the court that the complainant is a trader and the aunt of the victim whiles the convict is a farmer and the father of the victim, resident in Akwatia.
Kofi Oppong had been divorced from his wife who is presently living in the Volta Region.
The victim had been living with the complainant at Akwatia Zongo until February 14 last year when she left to stay with her father at New Town, a suburb of Akwatia. The victim is mentally deranged.
On April 25 this year, she visited the complainant and complained of stomach pain.
The victim then revealed she had gotten pregnant with her father and showed her antenatal card during interrogation.
The aunt subsequently reported the matter to the police, after which a medical form was issued for test at the hospital. Her pregnancy was confirmed and Kofi Oppong was arrested.
The convict admitted in his caution statement that he did that because he was lonely.
