The second accused person in the Adams Mahama trial, Alangde Asabke has appealed the death sentence passed on him by the jury upon being found guilty on the charge of conspiracy to commit murder.

In its decision on April 27, the jury found the first accused, Gregory Afoko not guilty per a 4-3 majority on both charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder giving rise to a mistrial.

However for Asabke, while he received a 4-3 not guilty verdict for the murder charge, the jury unanimously found him guilty on the second charge thereby being sentenced to death by the presiding judge, Her Ladyship Wood JA.

Therefore being dissatisfied with the above, his lawyers have filed an appeal arguing among others that the trial judge failed to adequately direct the jury on the offense of conspiracy to commit murder leading to a misdirection and conviction of their client.

Additionally, they aver that the conviction of Asabke is erroneous and not supported by the evidence and thus urging the court to set aside the entire ruling and conviction of the High Court dated 27 April 2023.

The two were facing charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder and have since pleaded not guilty to the charges in connection with the murder of the then Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Alhaji Adams Mahama in 2015.
