Police in the Western Region have confirmed that another bullion van was allegedly robbed by two armed men in Tarkwa in the Western Region on Monday.

Police in the Western Region have confirmed that another bullion van was allegedly robbed by two armed men in Tarkwa in the Western Region on Monday.

There were no casualties in this instance because the robbers are believed to have been allowed to take the money without any resistance. The robbery was however conducted amid sporadic shooting by the robbers.

Information from the Daily Graphic indicates that the robbers made away with over GHS107,000.00 in front of a supermarket at the center of the town.

The manager of the supermarket, Ms Mabel Dzedu observed that there was no police escort accompanying the bullion van when it arrived at the supermarket.

“The robber first entered the cosmetic shop and walked around for a while and then picked a drink and other items, paid for the items at the counter and waited for the items to be bagged.”

State-owned Daily Graphic also reported that footage from the CCTV camera at the shop showed that the robber who was inside the supermarket at the time the cashier on the Mon-Trans bullion van took money from the supermarket and was about to place it in the van managed to snatch the money, walk away to sit on a motorbike and absconded with the other robber.

The shop’s owner reported that the bullion van operators had been contracted to deposit cash from the shop to the bank on a daily basis

“When the bankers arrived, the team went through the process of counting the sales and after the transaction was completed, they carried the money towards the waiting bullion van,” she said.
