The High Court, General Jurisdiction 2 has deferred its judgment in the defamation suit brought before it by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas against Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Justice of the Court of Appeal who is sitting with additional responsibility as a High Court judge, Justice Eric Baah, had earlier fixed Thursday, February 16 to deliver judgment.

However parties in the case failed to meet the December 6, 2022 deadline to file written addresses, hence the decision to adjourn the presentation of the judgment.

According to the suit filed by Anas, he alleges that the MP in June 2018 published over 100 defamatory words, and impugned criminality to the person of Anas, following the broadcast of the famous Number 12 documentary which led to the banning of former FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi and dozens of referees in Ghana and Africa.

The publications complained of were authored in Twi on live tv on the MP's private media organization - Oman FM as well as other broadcasts on Adom TV and Asempa FM.

In those broadcasts, the MP alleged that Anas is a “murderer, a blackmailer, an extortionist, evil and corrupt” among others.

Anas further argued that Mr Agyapong was persistent and emphatic as to the purported criminality, undesirability, and dishonesty of the plaintiff.

He is therefore asking the High Court to award aggravated damages to the tune of GH¢25 million arising from defamatory materials published by the MP.
