An Accra Circuit Court has granted self-recognisance bail to Theophilus Donkor, counsel for Evangelist Patricia Koranteng, also known as Nana Agradaa.

Mr. Donkor was charged with two counts of assault on a public officer and offensive conduct conducive to breaches of peace, after he was alleged to have verbally assaulted police officers who were instructed to arrest Agradaa for a separate case on January 16, 2023.

In his first court appearance, the lawyer indicated that he had filed an application challenging the authority of personnel from the Cantonments Police Station that arrested him.

He argued that the police officers did not have the authority to arrest him since the alleged crime that was committed at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, was outside the jurisdiction of the Cantonments police division.

Further in his affidavit in support of the application, Mr Donkor stated that the move to get him charged before the court was only an attempt to discredit him.

In court on Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty, and the matter was subsequently adjourned to February 27, 2023.

The court presided over by Rosemary Baah Tosu also directed the parties to make use of Alternative Dispute Resolution, considering that the matter is not aggravated and they are both officers of the court.

Founder of the Heaven Way Church, Nana Agradaa has two cases before two Circuit Courts on counts of defrauding by false pretenses and charlatanic advertisement.
