Alleged Extortion: Captain Smart bail process not completed

According to the prosecution, the charges relate to alleged extortion from a Tema-based Businessman, Ahmed Kwabena Nkrumah a sum of $10,000 and ¢50,000 in December 2021 and January 12, 2022, respectively.

A popular Broadcast Journalist with Onua TV, Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart was on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, charged with two counts of alleged extortion and granted bail.

According to the prosecution, the charges relate to alleged extortion from a Tema-based Businessman, Ahmed Kwabena Nkrumah a sum of $10,000 and ¢50,000 in December 2021 and January 12, 2022, respectively.

Together with Captain Smart, one Eric Daniels Dadzie has also been charged with abetment of crime.

Appearing in the Accra Circuit court 6 on February 2, 2022, the two pleaded not guilty thus presiding judge, His Honour K.K. Obiri-Yeboah granted the broadcaster and the accomplice a bail to the tune of ¢50,000 each with two sureties each who must be related to the accused persons.

The Court thus adjourned proceedings to March 3, 2022.

DETENTION BY NATIONAL SECURITY

After the two had been granted bail by the Accra Circuit Court, the two were detained by the National Security.

Reports from sources indicate that after the two had been granted bail around 10:00 am, they were sent to the National Security where they stayed to verify their sureties.

However, they were detained because the process was delayed and was not completed thus had to spend the night in the Police cell.

Furthermore, the sources indicate that the two were later picked by National Security officers to the National Security office.
