Alleged Armed forces recruitment scam: Businessman remanded

According to the police prosecutor, Chief Inspector Isaac Anquandah, the accused portrayed himself as a military officer who helps people to gain protocol entry into the Ghana Armed Forces.

A Circuit Court in Accra has remanded a 25-year-old man, Justice Mensah for allegedly defrauding three persons of a sum of GHC 289, 400 purported to be fees to aid their recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to Police Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Isaac Anquandah, the accused portrayed himself as a military officer who helps people to gain protocol entry into the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies in the country at a fee between GHC 5000 to GHC 8, 000.00.

He indicated that one Wellington, a teacher at Odobeng in the Central Region, upon being informed about the protocol connections of the accused, mobilized his five family members and two children of his headmaster after confirming the same.

In all, Wellington gave Mensah an amount of GHC35, 000.00 to enable him to gain protocol entry for the five(5).

Additionally, Chief Inspector Anquandah noted that the accused was able to convince one Madam Konadu to also get interested persons from whom Mensah demanded a total of GHC108, 500.00

As if that was enough, Mensah further got Ackah to also mobilize interested persons for him. Ackah was able to get 22 persons from whom the accused demanded GHC 145, 900.00 all under the pretext of getting them recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces et al.

He added that it was after failing to secure them the promised recruitments that the victims made a formal complaint to the police leading to the arrest of the accused.

The prosecutor further added that Mensah admitted having engaged in the wrongful act in his caution statement and pleaded for time to do a refund.

However, when he appeared in court, the accused, Justice Mensah denied engaging in the fraudulent act.

The Circuit court thus remanded him and adjourned sittings to April 7, 2022.
