Alan Kyerematen, once a stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Minister for Trade and Industry, has taken the political scene by storm. Announcing his departure from the NPP, he's set his sights on the 2024 elections, but this time as an independent candidate.

His long-standing association with the NPP makes this move all the more shocking. Over the years, Kyerematen has been at the forefront of the party's initiatives, holding significant governmental positions and contributing to its growth.

However, echoing sentiments from a decade ago, he expressed his disillusionment at a press event in Accra. He stated, “My dedication seems to fade into the background within the Party. I see history repeating itself, reminiscent of my 2008 exit from the NPP."

With determination in his voice, he announced, "I'm stepping away from the NPP to pursue the presidency in the 2024 General Elections, not bound by party lines but as an Independent Presidential Candidate.”

Kyerematen's focus remains clear: addressing Ghana's core challenges, from its economy to social welfare. He's convinced that an independent stance will offer him the flexibility to serve Ghana without party constraints.

This isn't the first time Kyerematen has distanced himself from the NPP. Following a setback in the 2007 presidential primary and feeling overlooked, he briefly exited the party in 2008. Though he returned, his current decision to part ways and challenge the 2024 elections independently is bound to leave an indelible mark on Ghana's political landscape.
