Two individuals who impersonated North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to carry out fraudulent activities around fundraising efforts for victims of the Akosombo dam spillage have been remanded again.

Promise Ahorgah (a phone repairer) and Kwaotse Mawuli (a building construction labourer) were remanded on Tuesday when they made their second appearance at the Criminal Division of the High Court in Accra presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo.

Prosecutors say investigations are still ongoing, and thus asked the court for more time, while the accused persons remain on remand.

Arrested on December 13, 2023, the duo are accused of allegedly creating fake social media accounts in the name of the North Tongu MP to deceive unsuspecting Ghanaians into contributing funds for supposed victims affected by the Akosombo and Kpong Dam Spillage.

They face six provisional charges, including defrauding by false pretences, charlatanic advertisements, and falsely pretending to be a public officer.

The case has meanwhile been adjourned to January 17 to have their pleas taken.
