Agenda 111 contracts were not awarded illegally – Kojo Nkrumah

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has refuted allegations claiming some contracts associated with the government agenda 111 project were illegally awarded.

According to the Minister, contrary to accusations cast against the credibility of some figures and the criteria adopted in awarding these contracts, the government complied with due processes.

These include claims by the MP for North Dayi who has insisted that the project was illegally awarded.

The Agenda 111 is the government-announced project that will see the creation of 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals in the newly created regions, two specialized hospitals in the middle and northern belts as well as a regional hospital in the Western Region and a renovation of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

At a press briefing held on Sunday, September 5, 2021, Kojo Nkrumah insisted that the government stayed true to the requirements of the Public Procurement Act in awarding these contracts.

“We have noticed deliberate politically -motivated claims of impropriety being cooked up against the project. This includes a recent claim by the MP for North Dayi that the project was illegally awarded.”

“Government assures the public that all the contracts associated with the project were legally granted in accordance with approval from the Public Procurement Act.”

Meanwhile, government has already announced that it has secured US$100 million start-up fund through the Ghana Investment Infrastructure Fund for the commencement of works under the project.

Government has already said that it prioritized local contractors when awarding the contracts in order to create more jobs for local communities..
