Seven state agencies under the Attorney-General’s Department have been handed 91 vehicles and one motorcycle as logistical support for their work and activities.

The beneficiary state agencies are the Legal Aid Commission, Council for Law Reporting, Registrar General’s Department, Economic and Organized Crime Office, Law Reform Commission, Copyright Office and the Ghana Law School.

The presentation of these vehicles is said to mark the biggest supply of vehicles at a single time in the history of the Justice Ministry, since some of these agencies have had no logistical support in the last 20 years.

“Today’s presentation of 91 vehicles follows a special appeal I made to Cabinet in June last year, in consequence of which President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo directed the Finance Minister to ensure satisfaction of all the needs, for which we are profoundly grateful to the President and the minister,” Mr. Godfred Dame, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice said at a short ceremony at the State Protocol Department.

Of the 91 vehicles, the Legal Aid Commission gets 13, the Council for Law Reporting gets four, the Law Reform Commission gets 2, the Copyright Office gets 2, the Economic and Organised Crime Commission (EOCO) also gets 13.

In addition, all regional offices of the Justice Ministry have also received their share of the vehicles, which includes 39 saloon cars, 42 Toyota pick-ups, four Toyota Fortuners, three Toyota V8s, one 32-seater Toyota bus, two Toyota Mini buses and a motorcycle.

Mr. Dame added that he believes the presentation of the vehicles tremendously impact the work of the agencies.

“In all sincerity, to say that this fleet of vehicles will make an impact on the work of the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice will be an understatement,” he said.

The Justice Minister also declared that he is committed to ensuring that during his term in office, the agencies under his watch will be retooled in order to make them more efficient in the discharge of their statutory duties.
