The Accra Regional Police command says the arrest of Mr. Kwabena Bobie Ansah, an Accra FM journalist, was due to an alleged case of publication of false news and offensive conduct.

This is according to a statement from the police after the journalist was reportedly arrested yesterday, at 10:00pm after his show.

Police say his arrest became necessary after the journalist turned down several invitations for interrogation into the case.

According to a January 31 letter cited by Dennislaw News, the Cantoments Police Command wrote to the Class Media Group, owners of Accra FM, requesting for videos of allegations involving the First Lady, of which Kwabena Bobie Ansah is said to have discussed on his show.

“The Cantoments Divisional Criminal Investigation Department is investigating a case of alleged fraudulent acquisition of Government lands at AU Village by H/E Rebecca Akufo-Addo which was discussed on ‘Citizen Show’ hosted by Kwabena Bobie Ansah of Accra FM,” the letter indicated.

The Police have however promised to issue a full statement to the matter.

Earlier this week, another presenter with Power FM, Oheneba Boamah Bennie was jailed over comments he made on Facebook found to be contemptuous.

He was slapped with a 14-day jail term and also fined GHC3,000.
