Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa yesterday presented a petition to the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ) to investigate an Executive Council member of the National Cathedral Board, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng.

The Allegation

The MP alleges a ‘scandalous’ transfer of GHS 2.6 million cash from the National Cathedral Secretariat to JNS Talent Centre Limited whose directors are said to be Johannes Eshun, Sheila Eshun, and Kwabena Adu Gyamfi who remains a mystery figure.

It adds that per his investigation, the above mystery figure is Rev Kusi Boateng who is alleged to be using multiple passports and multiple identification cards with different names and different dates of birth.

Additionally, the MP notes that the Pastor’s Diplomatic Passport issued to him on November 25, 2021, rather bears the name Kwabena Adu Gyamfi and not Rev Victor Kusi Boateng and has two Taxpayer Identification Numbers.

Also, the petition notes that the REV Kusi Boateng has a host of companies that he operates under the name; Kwabena Adu Gyamfi and has registered some of them to engage in small-scale mining.

He alleges a conflict of Interest in the dealings of the man of God relative to his payment of the sum of GHS 2.6 million from the National cathedral account to his own company for no work done.

DEMANDS

Hon Ablakwah is therefore demanding the immediate resignation of the man of God from the Board of the National Cathedral.

Also, he is calling for a refund by Rev Kusi Boafo for all taxpayers' money diverted to his company.

Additionally, he wants the man of God to be subjected to thorough credible investigations and prosecutions for his many other offenses.

He is also calling for the dissolution of the National Cathedral Board.

FURTHER ACTIONS

The MP in addition to his petition intends to also file an urgent question when Parliament resumes for the Foreign Affairs Minister to explain why the man of God qualified for a Diplomatic passport.

Also, he says per a Facebook post that he will be filing an urgent question for the Finance Minister on what the JNS did to warrant the sum of GHS 3.5 million.

RESPONSE BY THE NATIONAL SECRETARIAT

The Secretariat of the National Cathedral has meanwhile responded to the MP’s allegations. In a release dated January 16, 2023, it notes that the alleged payment is not illegal but a refund of a short-term interest-free loan made by JNS to top up payments to the National Cathedral contractors.

It adds that this was support sought from Rev Kusi Boateng due to the delay in the receipt of funds to pay the contractors on time.

Finally, the statement notes that the Board and Management remain focused and committed to the completion of the National Cathedral.
