A new court facility in Achimota that is set to replace the Abeka District Court will be officially operational from 8th March, 2022, the Chief Justice has announced.

The court in Achimota will hear cases that were supposed to be heard by the Abeka district court, while the facility in Abeka remains closed.

An 18th February 2022 letter sighted by Dennislaw News which is addressed to the National President of the Ghana Bar Association indicated that the court facility in Abeka had become incapable of supporting the dispensation of justice due to its deplorable state.

“This has been necessitated by the sadly deficient facility the Abeka District Court has been housed in since 2011, with several constraints that impeded the smooth and effective delivery of Justice, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” the letter noted in part.

Accordingly, the Judicial Service received assistance from the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly for the construction of a modern court that will enable smooth administration of justice.

The letter which is signed by Chief Justice Anin Yeboah further noted that while all cases that are to be heard by the Abeka District Court will now be heard in the new court facility in Achimota, processes are accelerated to ensure that a new court is constructed in Abeka.
