11 teachers and a headteacher have been arrested for their involvement in alleged examination malpractice in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which begun yesterday, November 15.

The 12 persons were picked up at examination centers in the Offinso Municipality and the Senase R/C Basic School in Berekum by security persons of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and personnel from National Security.

According to WAEC officials, nine of the teachers and a headteacher who were arrested at the Dwamena Akenten M/A JHS in the Offinso Municipality, were found solving the objective part of the Social Studies paper being written that morning.

At the Senase R/C Basic School centre too, an invigilator is said to have been caught taking photos of the Social Studies paper, to be sent to his friend to solve.

A teacher of the Offinso State ‘A’ Junior High School (JHS) is also said to have been caught collecting money from the candidates while distributing the answer booklets of the subject to be written.

WAEC officials say the money was meant to influence the invigilator so that candidates could indulge in examination malpractice.
