The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Adjebeng has sounded a caution to people engaged in unexplained money-making ventures such as ‘Sakawa’.

He noted that once you use an unlawful means to make money or cannot explain the source of your wealth, his outfit will come after you.

“If you are engaged in Sakawa, how do you situate your activity in the Laws? Once you appear before me and you are not able to explain the source of your wealth, we will prosecute you. What work do you do? Is that work recognized as lawful in Ghana?” he said.

“Sakawa is not a job or activity that is lawful in Ghana. Especially being a radio presenter radio is lawful. Similarly, the work of your cameraman is lawful. Therefore he can be able to tell me the work he does and explain easily the source of his money. That is legal. However, once you cannot tell me the work you do or give an explanation for your wealth, my office will come after you,” he added.

Mr.Adjebeng made this known in an interview with Kwami Sefa-Kayi on the ‘Kokrokoo’ Morning show on September 30, 2021 monitored by DL News.

Additionally, he mentioned that the law will protect anyone who files a petition or presents a report to his outfit. This includes whistleblowers and informants.

He said the OSP will not disclose the names and identities of such whistleblowers to ensure their safety and protection.

Mr. Adjebeng also revealed that there exists a system of reward for people who will act as whistleblowers and informants for his office.

However, he maintained that such informants and whistleblowers risk prosecution in the event of relaying or making ‘bogus’ information.

“There exists an offense known as deceiving Public officer. Therefore if you are only motivated by the reward thereby giving a piece of bogus information to my office, you have deceived me. In such a case, I will take back my informant reward and prosecute you. Therefore make sure every information you relay to my outfit is factual and accurate,” he indicated.

In conclusion, he said the OSP will carry out a preliminary investigation into every report or information received to ensure that they are prosecuting the right persons.
