“Be that as it may, perhaps this may be the end of my legal professional journey but I do not fear to leave the “noble” profession for cautioning against “ignoble” acts of few bad nuts that can destroy our democracy.”

The Member of Parliament for Madina, Hon Francis Xavier Sosu has indicated that he is ready to leave the Legal profession if that will be the repercussion of his cautioning of “ignoble’ acts of a few bad nuts in the profession.

He has also disagreed with the Association of Judges and Magistrates that his ‘political judges’ comment is unprofessional and an unprovoked attack on the Judiciary because it was a conditional statement not meant to scandalize the same.

“Be that as it may, perhaps this may be the end of my legal professional journey but I do not fear to leave the “noble” profession for cautioning against “ignoble” acts of few bad nuts that can destroy our democracy.”

“Again, I completely disagree with the Association when it said my statement was unprofessional and an unprovoked attack on the Judiciary. The statement was in no way an attempt to either scandalize or attack the Judiciary. Rather, it was a CONDITIONAL STATEMENT cautioning judges who may “allow themselves to be influenced politically to be partisan”. This counsel to judges must be taken in good faith as it goes to the very roots of our democracy.”

Mr. Sosu during the Yentua demonstration last Thursday, February 10, asserted that some judges have become political in the line of work and that such judges would be treated as such.

“What it means is that when you become partisan as a judge remember that your tenure of office as a judge will run with the political party that you favor. Let that be clear because political power is very transient, positions are not possessions, so people will come, people will go,” he said.

The Association of Judges and Magistrates in responding indicated that it is lodging a formal complaint against the Member of Parliament for the Madina Constituency, Francis Xavier Sosu for his “Political judges” comment.

The Association also described the MP’s comment as serious and with the potential to do undue damage to the image of the Judiciary.

In a statement dated February 16, 2022, the Association further noted that the Madina MP’s statement as unfortunate, reckless, and misguided especially from an MP and a lawyer.

Meanwhile, the Madina MP has further indicated that the release by the Association of Judges and Magistrates will not stop him from his continuous critique of the Judiciary when need be.

He also expressed disappointment at the statement of the AJMG because he indicates that the content and context of his statement were misconstrued.

Notwithstanding, Hon Sosu admitted to knowing many fine Judges District Courts, Circuit Courts, High Courts, Courts of Appeal and

the Supreme Court who have demonstrated impeccable fidelity to the Rule of Law and the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

Therefore he wondered why a judge should be disturbed by his statement if the said judge does his or her work well and does not allow him or herself to be influenced politically to be partisan?
