The Ghana Police Service has pledged that it will not renege on its efforts in the fight against crime in the country, despite recent attacks on some personnel of the Service.
““Despite recent attacks on some of our men, we remain committed to our legitimate role of law enforcement. We will not be deterred at all. We will remain committed to our mandate, even at the peril of our lives.”
These comments were made by the Director-General of Police Public Affairs, ACP Kwesi Ofori at the sidelines of the burial ceremony for Sergeant Bright Annobil who was allegedly stabbed by a suspect, Yaw Peprah.
According to reports, Sergeant Annobil who was at the counter of the Nyamebekyere Police Station in the Berekum District was stabbed severely on the neck by the suspect when he was brought in to the police station.
Yaw Peprah also attempted to harm officers that had been dispatched to effect his arrest and was consequently killed in the process.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Annobil later died at the hospital.
ACP Kwesi Ofori told the media that “the Police is your friend. They are there to combat crime and maintain peace and security. We should thus be accorded the necessary respect. There is no need to attack us, as we are only working in your interest.”
