The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has dismissed reports that the woman who was reported missing last week in Takoradi was not pregnant.

The woman, Josephine Panyin Mensah was found under strange circumstances on Tuesday but was no longer carrying her pregnancy. She had disclosed that she delivered her baby on the day she went missing.

However, the Minister has told Kessben TV that information available from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) from the preliminary security report indicates that the woman was not pregnant, adding that the entire story may be fake.

Social media was implored to help find the woman last week after she did not return from her dawn walk.

Hon. Darko-Mensah who doubles as the head of the Western Regional Security Council told the media that “I received a call from NIB yesterday [Tuesday], that she had been found and was at the Axim hospital. According to the police, they suspect that the story was fake per their preliminary investigations. The medical doctor who attended to her even suspects that she may not have been pregnant, as has been reported.”

He added that “they are even surprised at how this story has gone so far. This is the immediate information I have. Nevertheless, the police are still with her and are conducting further investigations.”
