“Apologize or let’s meet in Court,” – Lawyers for Societe Generale Board Chair tells PPP PRO
The lawyers for Margaret Sekyere contend that the allegation made by the PPP in the aftermath of the MPC meeting held by the Bank of Ghana has put her to “great harm, ridicule and [caused her] to suffer immense personal distress.”
The Board Chair of Societe Generale Ghana Limited has served notice to the Communications Director of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Mr. Felix Mantey, to retract some statements made against her or be faced with legal action.
The Board Chairperson, Margaret Sekyere has warned through her lawyers that failure or refusal to heed the notice on or before 21st June 2021 would result in “legal action for damages and costs, taken against [him] and the Progressive Peoples Party jointly and severally.”
According to the lawyers of Madam Sekyere, the notice comes on the back of a GhanaWeb publication titled “Statement to address mischievous remarks made by Governor Ernest Addison at the 100th Monetary Policy Meeting (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana held in Accra on 31st May 2021”, in which Mr. Mantey “portended, purported and alleged to mean that the said Margaret Sekyere was either being used as a proxy or was some conspirator in some plot to harass a Dr. Kwesi Nduom.”
In the letter which has been sighted by Dennislaw News, Mr. Mantey is alleged to have suggested that Birim LLC, the US-based firm that has sued the PPP boss had conspired with Madam Sekyere, to extents that ignore the stated procedures.
The lawyers further observe that “an ordinary perusal of the writ commencing the legal action brought by Birim Group, LLC would reveal that it is a “Mavis Amanpene Sekyere” who has been named within and not a “Margaret Sekyere”. Thus our Client is at a loss as to why you would feature her name as the person affiliated to the said Birim Group LLC.”
The PPP founder Dr. Kwesi Nduom has been sued by a US-based equity fund and securities investment company, Birim Group LLC on charges that include money laundering to the tune of $63,000,000.
The lawyers for Margaret Sekyere contend that the allegation made by the PPP in the aftermath of the MPC meeting held by the Bank of Ghana has put her to “great harm, ridicule and [caused her] to suffer immense personal distress.”
“In the premise, we demand and do hereby demand on behalf of our Client, a full retraction of the malicious allegations made against her person by yourself on the behalf of the Progressive Peoples Party and with a correction about the misstatement of personalities, on the same forum the said statement was published, Furthermore, this must be with equal prominence as your initial said statement within the next seven (7) days, on or before the 21st of June 2021,” the statement concludes.
