A 20-year-old mechanic, Felix Oppong Nyameah, has been fined GH¢6,000 by the Enchi District Magistrate Court for stealing various items, including GH¢3,000 in cash, from a Physician Assistant (PA).
Nyameah, commonly known as ‘One Girl,’ pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft.
The court, presided over by Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer, ruled that if he failed to pay the fine, he would serve 12 months in prison for each offense, with the sentences running consecutively.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay GH¢20,000 as compensation to the victim.
According to General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante, who led the prosecution, the complainant, a PA at Enchi Government Hospital, lived in the hospital's residential quarters. Meanwhile, Nyameah resided in Begyeahaso, a nearby community in the Western North Region.
On January 28, 2025, the PA received an urgent call to attend to a patient and left his home in haste, inadvertently leaving his door unlocked. Upon returning a few hours later, he discovered that his belongings, including an iPhone S, Acer laptop, Samsung Galaxy S7, perfume, official stamp, sports boots, a wristwatch, two internet hotspot devices, medical equipment, and cash totaling GH¢3,000, had been stolen.
The case took a turn on February 9 when a witness informed the PA that Nyameah had given her a phone to charge. Upon switching it on, she noticed the PA’s photo as the screensaver and immediately alerted him.
The PA reported the incident to the Enchi police, who arrested Nyameah when he returned to retrieve the phone. A search of his residence led to the recovery of the PA’s official hospital stamp, a wristwatch, a bottle of perfume, and a bag containing hospital equipment—all of which the victim identified as his.
During police interrogation, Nyameah admitted to the crime in his caution statement. Following investigations, he was charged and subsequently arraigned before the court, leading to his sentencing.
